In the Federal Republic of Germany, as in every parliamentary democracy, responsibility for passing legislation lies with the legislative bodies, namely the German Bundestag and the Bundesrat. The Federal Ministry of Justice participates in this legislative process, primarily in the capacity of drawing up new legislation as well as preparing legislative amendments or the repeal of laws. In this context, the Ministry has overall responsibility above all for the “classical” areas of law.

 

Europe

In post-World War II Europe, institutions were created that are unprecedented in world history, and these directly affect the lives of the citizens of the Member States of the European Union.

G8-Presidency

On 1 January 2007 Germany assumed the rotating Presidency of the G8 for one year. The Presidency bears the motto “Growth and Responsibility”.

Commercial-Economic-Law

 Commercial law is the “special private law for traders”. It forms a special domain of private (civil) law, although it also embraces norms forming part of public law. The application of commercial law depends on the trader status of at least one of the legal subjects involved.

Partnership-Company-Law

Partnership and company law governs the external and internal relations of partnerships and companies formed under private law. Under German partnership and company law there is a co-called “numerus clausus (limited number)” of forms of company, i.e. the statutory enumeration of the possible forms that partnerships and companies can take under German law is conclusive.

Human-Rights

Human rights are rights that are derived from and justified by the dignity of every human being. These rights are inalienable, indivisible and indispensable. All human beings, regardless of where they live and regardless of how they live, are entitled to these rights. They therefore embody a type of global fundamental right.

International-Coop

In times of globalisation, human interactions increasingly transcend national borders. Cooperation among states has therefore become an essential element of daily life.
